17th November, 2008 (Term 4, Week 6)

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Our new kindergarten students for 2009 have now had two visits to "big School" and are certainly showing that they will be ready to start next year. The next Orientation Day is on Tuesday and it is hoped that all parents and students can attend. This session will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 and will be an information session for parents. It is an opportunity to learn about the school, the Kindergarten program and ways of making that transition from home to school a positive experience for both children and parents. In 2009 our school will be involved in the Best Start Program. This will provide valuable information to teachers about the skills and knowledge that each Kindergarten child brings to school. More information will be provided at the orientation day on Tuesday and at our next P&C on Monday evening at 7:30pm. We hope to see you there.

Congratulations to the Stage 3 students who attended the RSL Remembrance Day ceremony last week. I was told that your behaviour was excellent and that you displayed pride in your school and respect throughout the ceremony. Thank you to Mr. Middleton and Mrs. Richardson for their attendance. I would also like to acknowledge Mr. Middleton's commitment to the on-going relationship between the school and the local RSL.

Our next P&C will be held on Monday evening at 7:30. I would encourage parents to come along and find out what is planned for the last half of term 4. It is also an opportunity to communicate to the school what we have done well and what we need to strengthen in 2009.

Thank you to the children and teachers from the Bahai Scripture group for your Appreciation presentation last week. Your performance, kind thoughts and yummy food were very much appreciated by the staff.

An industrial stoppage will occur on Wednesday 19th November. Parents were informed on Friday that there will be minimal supervision from 9:00 - 11:00.

J Fullager
Principal

Yes its time to prepare for our GPS Fete. We are hoping this will be a wonderful community event and that many families, community groups and businesses will be involved. At the moment we are asking for donations of prizes for our monster raffle and chocolate wheel. So if you can possibly contribute in any way could you please email to fete09@yahoo.com.au. You may like to pester your workplace on our behalf.

Businesses may also be interested in sponsoring a stall eg. a monetary donation to cover the cost of paint for our airbrush tattoos. We look forward to hearing from you. Any queries please phone Kerryn Berry 42340539 or Tammy Stovin-Bradford 42340825.

REMINDER - MAYFLOWER VISIT

Tomorrow, 18th November, 3P will be visiting Mayflower Retirement Village to perform for the residents.

SNEAK PEEK FOR THE WEEK - 4H

On Tuesday after recess 4H went to Mayflower. We all brought two sheets of art, our books that we are reading in class and our calendar. In class we practised two songs. One was 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life' and the other was 'Christmas at Gerringong'. When we got there everyone clapped. We lined up in our rows and we sang. After singing the first song Jessica played a song on the keyboard (that) she had been learning. After the last song we talked to everyone and showed them our things. After that we walked back to the school. By Tayla.

Today 4H borrowed the electronic kit. I am going to do a little adjustment to make it go faster. Last week we went to the Art Gallery in Wollongong. Now we are doing drawings to send to the Art Gallery. This term we are learning about the Solar System. Lots of people are bringing books and posters about the solar system. By Jack.

At school we have a Variety Show each year. The teachers organise it. It has singing, dancing, variety and instruments. My friend and I sing. Lots of people do it. It is great seeing people on stage. It is fun singing to lots of people and some people get butterflies in the stomach. By Jasmine.

4H is doing some artwork in Maree Faulkners style. We do one for the Art Gallery because Mr Hadley is sending some in. The last two weeks we have been having dairy products to go with Daisy-Rose (the cow). Last week it was Sip 'n' crunch and this week it was Milky Moo's (ice cream). We also have been doing a procedure on the computer. We've been gathering writing. We've been writing about how to organise an excursion. By Toby.

The three things I enjoyed most about this week were watching a little solar powered car, doing our artwork and going to the Science Centre. I liked the car best. We also had 'Sip and Crunch' and this week we had 'Mini Milky - Moo Day'. I'm a bit nervous about the variety show. By Amber.

On Tuesday after recess we went to Mayflower Village. First we walked down there. When we got there we had to go line up into boys and girls. The first song we sang was 'Always Look on the Bright side of Life' but we couldn't get the electrical cord right. Then we got to sing our own song. Once we had done the performance we went and showed our art work and some other things. One lady said that she would give me money for my calendar! Then we went back to school. By Fred.

This Tuesday the years 4, 5 and 6 singing heat was held for the variety show. Ali, Jasmine, Sarah and I did a song by Delta Goodrem called 'Innocent Eyes'. Once we heard the variety show was only a few weeks away the commotion started. We practised as much as we could. It was really hard but we got through it by the end. I think the whole group enjoyed it. We all dressed in white t-shirts and any length jeans, but to go with all that we wore black or white shoes. It was a great experience. I just hope we get a spot in the finals. By Jessica.

I am looking forward to learning about the solar system. Our first bit of work on the solar system was answering questions. Before that we went to the planetarium to watch the "Secrets of the Cardboard Rocket". By Bradley.

On the 18/11/08 I'm doing the instrumental heat in the Variety Show. I'm doing Star Wars Imperial March on the keyboard. I think I will get into the Variety show Final. Either my brother Angus will be standing next to me in a Darth Vader suit or, me myself will be in a Darth Vader suit. By Hamish.

The past two weeks we've been doing a number of never ending tests and I hate them. Mr Hadley said they're good for the brain. I think they're good for the boredom so that's only the bad news but there is some good news as well! Like today we borrowed the Mars Rover from Mr Middleton. Jack said he's going to change it around. Hamish and I were the first to try it out. By Will.
