Homework
Homework is viewed by the school as an extension of the activities within the class. Homework is set by the class teacher and is marked. It can include such things as assignments, study of word lists, reading, writing or maths. The frequency of the work is set by the class teacher. Any difficulties in completing homework should be discussed in the first instance with the class teacher.
Home Reading
Home reading assists your child with his/her reading development.
Readers will be in plastic sleeves and your child should be able to read each book to you fairly successfully and the material should be returned to school the next day - even if you haven't had the chance to listen to it. Please try to make reading time a pleasant experience for your child.
Handy Hints for helping with reading:
1. Choose a quiet relaxed time for the child to read to you.
2. Talk about the book, and your child's feelings towards it.
3. Listen with interest and give your child your full attention.
4. Give your child time to think about what he/she is reading.
5. If your child gets stuck, prompt him/her with appropriate cues.
6. When your child has finished reading, praise him/her.
7. Discuss the story.
